Colin Powell, appearing on ABC’s “This Week” today put the anti-compromise left-wingers and right-wingers in their place. Noting that political commentators and activists repeatedly refer to the Founding Fathers to support their point of view, Powell said this:
The Founding Fathers compromised on slavery, for heaven’s sake. They compromised on slavery in order to get a constitution. They compromised on the makeup of the Senate. They compromised on the shape of the House. They compromised on the president, the powers of the presidency.
Can you imagine (Congress) dealing with issues of that importance today?
