This was the biggest disappointment of the GOP convention for some Republican activists who see the party’s credibility hurt by some vile characters in their midst.
This is a summary from the Detroit Free Press:
“… Among the points of division is Republican National Committeeman Dave Agema, whose comments and social media postings have been widely condemned as racist and anti-gay. McDaniel had refused to be drawn into the controversy while (serving) on the RNC, though RNC Chairman Reince Priebus and outgoing Michigan Republican Party Chairman Bobby Schostak are among those who have called on Agema to resign.”‘Dave and I have had private conversations; I’m going to keep them private,'” McDaniel said Saturday. “‘There is no mechanism for removal. He’s not going to step down, so we’re going to move forward.'”
Beyond the argument that, yes, there is a legal way to remove Agema, it’s almost impossible to believe that Romney McDaniel didn’t secure some of her tea party support by promising to leave Agema alone.
It’s important to note that the RNC formally demanded his resignation and called on the Michigan Republican Party to “explore disciplinary options.”
Chad, your insinuation that Ronna asked or Gave any Quid Pro Quo in exchange for votes is insulting. It shows a true lack of who the players are in not only the MIGOP, but also the Tea Party and Liberty movement! The few Usual suspects from the Tea Party who supported Ronna, for the most part, were not defenders of Dave Agema. The last minute Former Leaders, now elected officials, who jumped on Team Ronna may have been trying to Curry Favor, But I would be shocked to Find actual Deals were agreed to.
Is Twitter rumor that Agema did not attend convention true? If so, why?
Reince Priebus, the Dave Agema mess is now back in your inbox. Wishing and hoping MIGOP would do the right thing by expelling him has failed; Agema himself is stronger than ever because of his intransigence, and Ronna Romney McDaniel has proven herself to be either too weak, or too willing to collaborate and compromise.
So, Reince, it's time to move beyond the proverbial "sternly-written letter" and empty warnings of this or that consequence, and actually do something.
Or not do anything, hope this all goes away — and accept once and for all that racists, homophobes and Christianist zealots ARE too strong, to deeply enmeshed in the GOP base (nationally and in Michigan), to risk offending them.
