Someone is apparently mounting a robo-call campaign to convince Grosse Pointe Shores residents to have their city break away from Wayne County and join Macomb County.
The calls, which seem to have an anti-Ficano (Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano) vibe, were launched earlier this week. They specifically ask the recipient to consider what their opinion is of Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel.
Joining Macomb County has been a festering issue in Grosse Pointe Shores for many months. The city, which has a surprisingly spirited, pugnacious political atmosphere for such a small town, is currently located partially in Macomb and partly in Wayne.
The series of scandals rocking the Ficano administration has fueled some of the secession talk, but many residents simply like the idea of lower taxes and better schools. Opponents want to maintain the traditional flavor of the Shores village that existed for many decades before the residents chose cityhood.
