Also at that same luncheon, Moroun had some strong words about the old Detroit train station building, which is also owned by the family. Some consider the towering building an eyesore but Moroun said the family feels terrible about the deterioration of the vacant building because the station offers probably the most impressive architecture in southeast Michigan.
“If it had been in any other city in the United States, it would have been renovated already,” Moroun said.
To those who say the station should be torn down, Moroun says that would be “gutless.”
The Morouns have no tenants in the works but they plan to ask the city for a permit in the spring to reconstruct the roof and install windows so that the structure is still viable.
