The Republican conference on Mackinac Island got started with a bang several hours ago as a barroom brawl erupted between John Yob, a key figure in the Rand Paul campaign, and Marco Rubio’s deputy campaign manager.
Yob, a controversial figure in Michigan politics and national political director for Paul, was allegedly punched in the face by Rich Beeson of the Rubio camp at Horn’s Bar, a popular gathering place on the island where six presidential candidates are scheduled to speak this weekend. The unofficial schedule of events indicates there will be lots of partying and a little bit of politicking

A Grand Rapids political consultant, Yob wrote on Facebook this morning:
“I ran into a guy named Rich Beeson, who frankly I didn’t even know who it was at first because he isn’t relevant in our political world. He literally physically assaulted me by punching me in the face. The state police are looking for him. I have it on video, from multiple angles. This will play out in the national media in the next few hours.”
According to the Detroit Free Press, the Mackinac police would not immediately confirm or deny the incident.
