In the coming days, the ultraconservative Club for Growth will air more than $500,000 in television ads undercutting centrist Republican lawmakers and candidates – including Fred Upton of Michigan.

According to The Hill, two wings of the fiscally conservative group, Club for Growth PAC and Club for Growth Action, will target Reps. Tim Murphy (R-Pa.) and Fred Upton (R-Mich.), plus David Dewhurst, who is running for retiring Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison’s (R-Texas) seat.

“This is only the beginning,” a spokesman said.
In Michigan, an ad calls Upton a “liberal congressman” and blasts him for voting to bail out Wall Street banks, approve earmarks and raise the debt ceiling. While not officially endorsing, Club for Growth has made no secret of its fondness for former state lawmaker Jack Hoogendyk, who is making a second go at unseating Upton.
“Fred Upton’s been wasting our tax dollars in Washington for 25 years,” the narrator says in the ad. “That’s enough.”
Don’t these guys have anything better to do with their money than try to enforce purity within the GOP?
