Liberals who blasted a fellow Democrat — Newark, N.J.,
mayor Cory Booker — for proposing an end to “nauseating” Democratic attack ads
against Mitt Romney must be thoroughly confused now.

One of Booker’s outspoken supporters is Van Jones, President
Obama’s former “green czar” whose past support for socialism made him an easy
target for right-wing talk radio.

“An urban mayor who nearly DIED
saving neighbor from a fire, has earned right 2 demand integrity & courage

Most commentators on the left, such as
Chris Matthews of MSNBC and the left-wing group known as Think Progress, have called
Booker a traitor to Obama’s cause and a phony who doesn’t belong in the
Democratic Party. Of course, the critics of the mayor’s comments, made on Sunday
on NBC’s “Meet The Press,” have always thought of Booker-type pols as impure and
untrustworthy.

In Booker’s case, his sin is that
he serves as a centrist, business-friendly, pragmatic leader whose approach to
the job is as a problem-solver.
