Nice choice by CBS to pick Scott Pelley as the new anchorman. He was scheduled to speak to the Washington Bureau, along with CBS News President David Rhodes about 45 minutes ago. The “Evening News’” gain is “60 Minutes” loss.
Thank God the embarrassing Katie Couric era at the network of Murrow and Severeid and Cronkite is over.
In 2004, when Dan Rather was being forced out, Pelley, who is known as a skilled and diligent reporter, had this to say about speculation that he might be bypassed for the anchor chair by the perky Couric:
“I think the audience can tell the difference between someone who is a brilliant reader of the teleprompter, and someone who has the experience and who has been in the field, who has covered the stories and knows what they’re doing.”
If only CBS had listened to him back then.
