Well, folks, I learned
today that Nate Shannon is not running a modest campaign for Sterling Heights
City Council.
In a Sunday Macomb Daily
news story in which I contributed information about the Sterling Heights race, I
wrote that Shannon was running a “more modest campaign” compared to fellow
challenger Doug Skrzyniarz, whose election bid was aided by former governor Jim
Blanchard.”
As it turns out, Shannon,
38, has snagged many of the same endorsements that Skrzyniarz earned – the UAW,
AFL-CIO, Michigan Carpenters and Millwrights, the Sterling Heights Firefighters
Union and the Sterling Height Police Officers Association.
Shannon also has gained
support from the Warren Education Association and the Utica Education
Association. A first-time candidate, he teaches economics, government and
history to high school kids at L’Anse Creuse’s Riverside Academy.
Shannon let us know in no
uncertain terms that he has knocked on 4,000 doors out on the campaign trail
and he is in this race to win it.
As the Nov. 5 elections
approach, Shannon and Skrzyniarz are the challengers in a field of eight candidates
that features six incumbents running for re-election.
