Ron Klain, former chief of staff to Vice President Joe Biden and former aide to then-vice president Al Gore, may add some gravitas to Third Way, a leading centrist political group.
Centrists and moderates hope that the addition of Klain, who was also a former Obama White House assistant, will give Third Way more of an ear to the president.
Klain has joined the think tank’s board of directors after he became convinced that Third Way’s moderate plank deserved to have more influence within the administration.
“Politics and governing is ultimately about the battle of ideas, and with their brand of fresh thinking, Third Way has emerged as one of the most important voices in Democratic politics. During my latest two years in the White House, I saw first-hand how Third Way’s ideas have had an impact on the national debate. I am delighted to be playing an active role with an organization that I believe in,” said Klain in a statement.
Some political junkies may most closely associate Klain with the HBO movie “Recount,” based on the 2000 Florida fiasco, in which Kevin Spacey admirably portrays Klain as the brains behind the Gore recount.
