The liberal activist group expressed outrage at the “ignorance and bigotry” posted for public display by the school official.

“At a time when school districts across the country, including Michigan, are dealing with racial and religious harassment and discrimination in schools by those emboldened by Donald Trump’s election, these types of posts from a supposed leader in the district cannot be tolerated. He must step down immediately,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan.

“Our schools need to be a welcoming and inclusive place for everyone regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation or gender and Mr. Fancesconi clearly doesn’t have what it takes to foster a safe learning environment for all students.”

Scott cited one Fancesconi post, a meme which was published on November 11 after the election. It features a picture of Donald Trump and reads in all caps: “No, I’m not going to kill the gays, make slavery legal, and take away women’s rights. I’m not a Muslim.”
