This funny little tidbit comes from the liberal site Thinkprogress.org:
In a move that is sure to draw ridicule, the politician who serves as the lead sponsor of a Tennessee bill that would allow those with pistol permits to bring guns into bars has been arrested on charges of drunken driving and possession of a gun while under the influence.
Pulled over in Nashville, Tenn., yesterday, Republican state Rep. Curry Todd failed a roadside sobriety test and refused to take a breathalyzer. A loaded Smith & Wesson 38 Special was found in a holster stuffed between the driver seat and the center console.
A spokesman for the House Republican Caucus had no immediate comment on the arrest.
Todd was previously best known for comparing pregnant illegal immigrants to “reproducing rats.”
The arresting officer stated that, on approaching the car, he “immediately detect(ed) an obvious and strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle” and noted that Todd was “unsteady on his feet, almost falling down at times.” He concluded that “the subject was obviously very impaired and was not in any condition to be carrying a loaded handgun.”
Here is the mugshot taken of Todd on the night of the arrest:
