It says a lot
about the state of Rand Paul’s campaign — and the atmosphere created by
Trumpish politics — that a presidential candidate can call his colleagues
“idiots,” criticize his campaign strategists’ “dumbass” tactics, and receive
little attention because of it.
senator agreed to livestream his entire day of campaigning on Wednesday and it
did not go well.
about what idiots we have in the Republican Party running for president?” He
chastised his GOP rivals for siding with Hillary Clinton when it comes to
“beating their chest to see who is the most likely to get us involved in a
war.”
At another
point, Paul engaged in a bit of live Q&A, addressing snarky questions sent
to him digitally by voters. The senator’s sarcasm came out in a big way.
Addressing a question whether the candidate, who has been dropping in the
polls, is still in the race, Paul said: “I wouldn’t be doing this dumbass live
streaming if I weren’t, so yes, I’m running for president, get over it.”
livestreaming fiasco seems to reveal that news reports indicating that Paul is
not enjoying the campaign trail are spot on. In frustration, he said live that he
was spending the day “riding around looking at Iowa cornfields and answering
silly questions.”
After listening
to his recent criticisms of Congress and watching some of his electioneering
agitation in action, I would suggest his name will not be on the 2016 Kentucky
ballot in either spot: For president, or as an incumbent senator seeking
re-election.
