At The Daily Beast, Michelle Goldberg has a follow-up about the allegations by “60 Minutes” and others that Greg Mortenson, the humanitarian-star author of “Three Cups of Tea,” may be a fraud.
If true, the revelations could spur doubts about his cause—building schools primarily for girls—and trigger a drop in donations to the global effort, according to Goldberg. “Mortenson is not just a memoirist—he’s also the single most famous champion of the transformative power of education for girls in poor countries,” she writes. “If his downfall leads to skepticism about his cause, it would be not just a scandal, but a tragedy.”
