Former Oakland County prosecutor Dick Thompson will be the featured speaker at the Romeo Area Tea Party’s meeting later this month, where he will speak on the dire-sounding subject, “The Internal Threat of Muslims.”
Thompson, former nemesis of Dr. Jack Kevorkian, has been out of the public eye for some time. The former Oakland County lawman was always a deeply religious figure, but some old-time political observers may be surprised to see him jump on what critics would call the Muslim-bashing bandwagon.
Thompson is the president and chief counsel of the Thomas More Law Center, a “not-for-profit public interest law firm and educational organization dedicated to the protection of the religious freedom of Christians, time-honored family values, and the sanctity of human life,” according to the school’s mantra.
In a prior life, he served as Oakland County prosecuting attorney for eight years, from 1989 to 1996, and as the chief assistant prosecutor, second in command at the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, for 16 years, from 1973-1988.
Another speaker at the event is Ray Township Supervisor Charles Bohm, who will apparently address local political issues.
The event is scheduled for 7 to 8:30 p.m. on April 18 at the Capital Banquet Center, 12350 31 Mile (just east of Van Dyke) in Washington Township.
I would suspect that Thompson’s critics might say that he has gone from prosecution to persecution.

Hopefully the FBI will monitor the dangerous right wing fanatics that will attend what should be called a "anti-Muslim hate festival."
I am certain that there will be the typical and demented allegations about Sharia law, terrorism, attacks on children and how the President is connected.
I wonder what other crazed right wingers will be there.I would not be surprised if the Glenn Beck wanna-be, Frank Beckmann, attended. If abything,he is even more deranged and hateful about Muslims than the idiot Thompson.
