The folks over at a web site called Experian Hitwise (hitwise.come) are raising questions about polls showing Mitt Romney as the Republican front-runner for the presidency and a formidable 2012 opponent for President Obama.
Relying upon detailed research of Internet searches, Hitwise found that variations of searches that included “Sarah Palin” in the query were six times the volume of “Mitt Romney” and two times the volume of “Barack Obama.”
In addition, the search term variations for Palin increased 170 percent for the week ending June 4, as compared to two weeks ago before the start of her bus tour and recent gaffe regarding the history of Paul Revere.
There was also an increase of 56 percent in variations of searches for Romney last week after the ex-governor officially announced his candidacy.
In comparing online activity for potential presidential candidates, Obama’s website, Organizing for America, received the highest raw total of visits, more than double that of second-ranked SarahPAC.com and triple that of MicheleBachmann.com.
And, finally, while smaller, the total visits for MittRomney.com increased 345 percent for the week ending June 4 as compared to the previous week, the highest percentage gain among the six (potentially) presidential web sites.
