2012: “If Governor Snyder deserves credit for Michigan’s
economic recovery, so does Jennifer Granholm.” Yes, the economy
is picking up steam under Snyder. But if you believe that governors control
such things, credit also must be given to Snyder’s predecessor, Gov. Jennifer
Granholm, at least in her final year in office. Let’s also not forget
President Barack Obama’s bailout of General Motors and Chrysler, which set
the stage for an auto-led recovery of Michigan’s economy…But according to the
Bureau of Labor Statistics, job growth under Snyder has slowed a bit compared
to the last year of Granholm’s tenure. Michigan added 88,300 payroll jobs
from December 2009 to January 2011, the month Snyder took office. Since then,

second-fastest pace in the U.S., lifted by reviving carmakers and local
manufacturers, according to a new Bloomberg index that tracks the pace of
state growth. The home to the U.S. automobile industry was topped only by
North Dakota, where an oil boom is raising incomes and boosting government
coffers at the nation’s quickest rate…The index shows how rising demand for
manufactured goods from countries including China are driving the recovery
throughout the Midwest. Illinois, Ohio and Minnesota joined Michigan on the

Economic Evaluation of States report issued Wednesday reveals that Michigan’s
economy is recovering at the second-fastest pace in the country – trailing
only North Dakota – with growth attributed to carmakers and local
manufacturers. The Bloomberg analysis, which Snyder said is the first of its
kind, looks at personal income, tax revenue, employment, housing prices and

to close its production operation in Kalamazoo as soon as it expands its

jobs here, according to a local source, and the creation of 70 new jobs in
