State Sen. Jack Brandenburg is taking up where his Macomb County predecessor left off, earning the title of the Michigan Senate’s most conservative member.
According to the annual ranking of the 38-member Senate by the Lansing-based MIRS newsletter, Brandenburg voted in the conservative vein 97 percent of the time in 2011, based on 33 key Senate votes analyzed by MIRS.
A Harrison Township Republican and former state House member, Brandenburg in 2010 succeeded Alan Sanborn, who won the MIRS distinction as most conservative senator four times, including three years in a row, from 2003-05.
“If I had to describe my feelings in one word, the word would be ‘proud,’” Brandenburg said in a statement. “I ran as a conservative and promised the voters of my district I would uphold conservative principles and ideals. This ranking proves that I kept my promise.”
As for Macomb’s two other senators, Republican Tory Rocca of Sterling Heights finished in a tie for the eighth most conservative member, at 79 percent – a surprise for many political observers who see Rocca as a moderate on some issues – and, on the flip side, Democrat Steve Bieda of Warren was rated the ninth most liberal member, at 29 percent.

Great job Jack ! Standing up for fiscally conservative principles puts us back on a path to attract businesses and jobs to our state. Keep up the good work !
Jack Brandenburg is not a conservative. He is a puppet of the teachers union. He is also a violent individual who has anger management issues. Grow up Jack.
