In response to his plan
to deliver food, water and toys to some of the refugee children on the Texas
border, conservative commentator Glenn Beck is facing a nasty backlash on
Twitter and has received hateful letters and emails threatening his life and
livelihood.
According to Mediaite, Beck said “I’m getting violent emails from people who say I’ve
‘betrayed the Republic.’”
Beck said he will bring truckloads
of food, water, soccer balls and teddy bears for about 3,000 undocumented children
later this month, though he fears it could ruin his career.
The decision is about compassion,
not politics, he told his viewers.
“Through no fault of their own, they
(the migrant children) are caught in political crossfire,” Beck said in a video announcement on
his website The Blaze. “And while we continue to put pressure on Washington and
change its course of lawlessness, we must also help. It is not either/or. It is
both. We have to be active in the political game, and we must open our hearts.”
Beck will be accompanied on his trip
to McAllen, Texas, on July 19 with two of the most conservative members of
Congress, Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Rep. Louis Gohmert (R-Texas) and faith
leaders to administer aid to some of the recent influx of children that have
crossed the border.
