I will leave it to political insiders to accurately
dissect this story but Dave Agema, under fire from all corners, is holding a
$50-per-plate fundraiser – for himself.

$50-per-plate fundraiser – for himself.
On one of his Facebook pages, Agema said the breakfast gathering
in Grand Rapids will help pay for his expenses occurred while serving as a Republican National
Committee member, which is an unpaid position.

Isn’t it rather odd for a RNC or DNC member to hold their own
fundraiser? I’m sure there are expenses involved in serving on a party’s
national committee but I would assume a few contributions from party big-wigs
normally take care of that obligation. After all, he’s not a candidate for public
office he just travels the landscape parroting the party line – or at least he’s
supposed to.

Agema, a former state representative from westernMichigan, has recently emerged as sort of a combination of George Wallace and
Iowa Congressman Steve King.
Could it be that Agema’s bigoted statements about gays
and his advancement of the writings of a white supremacist have caught up with
him? He has received widespread criticism from GOP officials, though at the
most recent meeting of the Republican state committee the party’s Agema problem
was thoroughly glossed over.

I have to wonder if the party establishment has spread the
word to shut the money spigot for Agema and also keep your distance from this
guy – who has gone beyond being politically radioactive. If you missed it, his
most recent statements praised Russian President Vladimir Putin’s homophobic
policies and bashed Muslims for “contributing nothing to the American way of
life.”

Here’s the Facebook sale pitch from Agema to his loyal (shrinking)
following:
following:
“Tickets to this breakfast are just $50 and
sponsorships start at $250. All money raised though (sic) this breakfast will
be used to help me continue the fight for our conservative values. As you know,
the job of Republican National Committeeman is not paid and all of my expenses
are paid out of pocket or through the generosity of Patriots like you.”

Actually Chad, most are given a basic stipend that barely covers their costs. Speaking with a party vice-chair they stated they get $2,500 for their term. This is barely enough to cover gas costs, let alone hotel stays. I see nothing wrong with the fundraising as long as they are up front with how the funding is going to be used.
Where are the other Chairs? Dave Agema is considered a leader in the RNC conservative caucus where there only used to be a handful of members in this caucus, They are now over 100 (a clear majority of the 168-member committee). The RNC stood Unanimously with Agema'sore Values Resolution was passed out of committee unanimously and brought to the floor for the full RNC vote, where the voice vote was unanimous as well. They felt this was important to distinguish us from the democrat platform in order to show a vast difference between us and the democrats . In short this resolution reaffirmed:
That our rights come from God – remember that the democrats tried to remove God from their national platform.
That we remain committed to the sanctity of life – the democrats favor abortion, followed by infanticide if the child survives the abortion attempt.
That we will not tolerate further infringement on the second amendment – the democrats want to take your guns away.
That marriage is properly defined as being between one man and one woman – the democrats favor homosexual marriage.
The value of legal immigration, but remain opposed to illegal immigration – the democrats favor amnesty.
Dave Agema has been the leader in pushing the Republican Platform in MI, and Pushing the concept that Principle matters. Over 3/4's of the state Executive committees also passed Agema's Resolutions.
By and large an NCM is self-funded for his travels. It's a volunteer position.
While begging for money can be done, it's generally a little untoward. It's gauche. It's vulgar.
Arguably it's unethical to do it this way. Every e-mail he sends out under the Michigan Republican banner also includes a PayPal-powered begging link.
