Donald Trump’s appearance tonight at the Republican Party
event for the Saginaw and Genesee county GOP organizations is expected to draw
more than 2,000 people and could generate an OJ-like orgy of press attention.

Michael Moon, chairman of the Genesee County Republican
Party, posted Monday on Facebook in the mid-afternoon that he had already
received 68 calls from media across the country – and that was only since 8
a.m. that same day.

The $25-per-plate Lincoln Dinner event, slated for the
Birch Run Expo Center, is apparently sold out, marking an extraordinary turnout
in the heavily Democratic Flint-Saginaw area.

Michigan served as a leading indicator of Trump’s political
appeal when the bombastic billionaire appeared at the Oakland County GOP Lincoln
Dinner in the spring of 2013. Trump shattered the attendance record of the
124-year-old annual event by attracting 2,300 people to the Suburban Collection
Showplace in Novi.

At that time, it was reportedly the largest crowd of 2013 at any
county Lincoln Dinner in the nation. And at that time, Trump was a reality
TV show star with no intentions of running for president.

One item to watch closely tonight: What will Trump say to
the media if he’s asked about Gov. Rick Snyder? With his penchant for bashing
his critics, including those that he has previously praised, Trump may get his
dander up if he’s queried about Snyder’s recent remarks.

Snyder, who won the 2010 Michigan gubernatorial election
as a non-politician, a business executive, recently said many voters gravitate
toward candidates with that type of resume. But he told the Associated Press
that there are “clearly issues and problems” with Trump.

Of course, in terms of personality and tone, Trump could
very well serve as the anti-Snyder.

“(Trump) has had a lot of success in terms of
business, but a number of his comments are clearly inappropriate and would be a
major concern,” Snyder said. “And I think that’s something (voters)
need to take into account in their decision-making process.”

If Trump chooses to address those remarks by bashing
Snyder, as he has thrashed numerous fellow candidates and members of the media
in recent weeks, the GOP presidential frontrunner should be reminded of what he
said two years ago. At the Oakland County event, Trump said this:  

“… I have a great feeling for this state. And I think the
governor of this state is doing a fantastic job.”
