Sen. Debbie Stabenow this morning announced that she is
backing the nuclear deal with Iran, putting the Democrats closer to blocking a
congressional effort to scuttle U.S. acceptance of the international accord.
According to Politico, Stabenow’s announcement means the president
needs just six more supporters in the Senate to douse all speculation about the
GOP’s chances of killing U.S. involvement in the pact.

Here’s
a portion of the Michigan Democrat’s statement (emphasis added):

On Sunday, Senate
Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) came out in favor of the Iran agreement, which
ensures an aggressive push in the Senate on the president’s behalf.

Politico reports that,
if Reid and Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) can hold their caucus to fewer
than six defections, Republicans will lack the votes to get the disapproval
resolution the 60 votes it needs to clear the Senate. That would spare Obama
from having to veto it.
