The newest national poll, conducted by CBS News, shows Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich tied in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.
But, in a statistical tie at 19 percent is the number of respondents who look at the field of seven candidates and said they want more options — essentially they’re hoping for somebody else.
What’s more, nipping at the heels of Romney and Gingrich is undecided — as in 17 percent of GOP voters who said they have no idea who they support.
With the Iowa caucuses — the official start of the campaign season — just two weeks away, a whopping 79 percent said their minds are not made up and they could switch their allegiance to a candidate.
With support that soft, we may well see more ups and downs in the coming weeks. Perhaps Ron Paul coming in first or second in Iowa. Or Jon Huntsman finishing in the top three in New Hampshire.
