Michigan Congresswoman Candice Miller has developed a dubious reputation for backing hapless GOP candidates for president during her 14 years in the U.S. House.

Miller’s unorthodox decision to retire from Congress and seek the Macomb County public works commissioner job paid off on Tuesday, as the Harrison Township Republican easily defeated the longtime incumbent Democrat, Tony Marrrocco.

The Marrocco camp had repeatedly called on Miller to renounce her support for Donald Trump, based on his controversial and sexist remarks. But Miller never budged.

So, it’s now only fair to point out that Miller finally picked a winner in Trump – even though the bombastic billionaire was her second choice.

Bottom line: The Candy Curse is over.

Miller (still known as “Candy” to her longtime Macomb County constituents) enthusiastically endorsed Carly Fiorina for president back in September 2015 when the former business executive’s campaign began to take off.

But Fiorina only lasted until February of this year, when she pulled out of the race while wallowing in single digits in the polls, unable to qualify for presidential debates.

Within the bigger picture, it should be pointed out that Congresswoman Miller was a bigtime supporter of President George W. Bush, until the Iraq War turned out badly for the U.S. In fact, Miller’s two previous choices for the White House — former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani in 2008 and Texas governor Rick Perry in 2012 – each mounted efforts that are often cited as the worst Republican presidential campaigns of recent decades.

The idea of a Candy Curse may sound silly. But it’s worth noting that in each case Miller endorsed early and she was certain that her choice was destined for the Oval Office.

Now that Trump is headed for the White House, Giuliani, a decisively moderate GOP candidate for president back in 2008, is mentioned as the next Department of Homeland Security secretary under Trump.

Since his disastrous presidential run eight years ago, Giuliani has emerged as an abrasive Trump advocate and a conspiracy theory promoter throughout the 2016 general election – even suggesting that war crimes will never exist as the Middle East roils.

He has essentially ruined his post-9/11 legacy as “America’s mayor.”

So, does Miller, the outgoing vice chair of the GOP House Homeland Security Committee endorse Giuliani as the next DHS secretary?

We shall see.
