In case you missed it, Rick Santorum’s campaign event in Macomb County on Friday included a question and answer session with the audience, and when he was asked about the Iranian nuclear threat, in a very strongly worded response he portrayed Iran as a menace to the world.
The Iranian leaders, said the presidential candidate, are a theocratic terror group that would wreak havoc on the globe if they gain nuclear weapons. The former Pennsylvania senator told the crowd that 100,000 Iranian children and disabled adults were used essentially as cannon fodder in the 1980s Iran-Iraq war as they were forced into service as mine sweepers.
“This is a corrupt, sick regime,” Santorum said. What are their values? “Not freedom, not opportunity. It’s martyrdom.”
The resurgent candidate also mocked the Iranians for downplaying the fact that their so-called nuclear power program is spread throughout 40 locations, with many sites located within bunkers or mountainsides.
“It’s very obvious that they lie. The one thing they don’t lie about is … that they want to destroy the state of Israel,” he said.
