For all you politcal pros out there, as well as activists and campaign volunteers, listen to this: the vote-count was just completed in Romeo and the two winning write-in candidates (in a school board race, no less) had 498 and 454 votes, respectively.
I found that rather amazing.
To be fair, this was a situation where only one candidate filed and three seats were on the ballot. Romeo, being a tight-knit community, responded with six write-in candidates for a 4-year term and three for a partial term.
On Tuesday, those candidates garnered a combined 1,996 votes and helped generate a turnout above 20 percent, about equal to the countywide average, as some of them waged aggressive campaigns .
The winners, Chris Giancarli and Gus Demas, may have a future not only in education but also working as how-to consultants for write-in campaigns.
