Congresswoman Candice Miller will participate in a
special hearing at Ground Zero in New York City on Sept. 8 that will analyze
the changing methods of terrorist organizations since the 9/11 attacks.

The “field hearing” of the House Homeland Security
Committee will take place in Foundation Hall at the September 11 Memorial &
Museum, located where the World Trade Center once stood.

The subject of the hearing is “Beyond Bin Laden’s Caves and Couriers to A New Generation of
Terrorists: Confronting the Challenges in a Post 9/11 World
.”

According to the committee’s website, the hearing will “revisit
important lessons we learned in the post-9/11 world (and) assess our country’s
readiness to confront the viral spread of terror” – an apparent reference to
ISIS’ use of social media for propaganda and recruiting.

Miller, a Harrison Township Republican who serves as vice
chair and the committee and  chair of the
Subcommittee on Border and Maritime Security, released a statement about the
hearing:

“On 9/11, this country experienced devastating loss
as a consequence of security vulnerabilities exploited by al Qaeda.  On
that tragic day, this country learned a painful lesson – we needed to improve
information sharing. Since then, we have strengthened our international
screening protocols and intelligence (gathering) tools and have improved
interagency coordination between local, state, and federal law enforcement
agencies.

“However, al Qaeda, ISIS and those inspired by their
perverted ideology continue to plot and plan attacks on the homeland. Our
security efforts require that we continue to assess the challenges of
radicalized individuals whose goal is to kill innocent people. In addition to
the hearing, we will have the opportunity to visit the memorial, which will
forever pay tribute to the innocent lives lost on 9/11.”
