State Rep. Lesia Liss, a Warren Democrat, will hold a series of town hall meetings in Warren this month to inform people about changes to the health care system brought about by President Obama’s health care reforms.
A registered nurse, Liss and health care experts will explain the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and, at one session, dissect the state plan to integrate care for those are dually eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid.
That Medicare-Medicaid session will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday at Fitzgerald High School’s Automotive technology building, 23200 Ryan Road. This forum is designed to assist the elderly and caregivers and will feature staff from the Area Agency on Aging 1-B’s Senior Advocacy Network and Consumer Advisory Team.
Currently, more than 200,000 people in Michigan qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid, but navigating both systems of care can be confusing, according to Liss, who is the leading Democrat on the House Health Policy Committee. The plan to coordinate services for people who qualify for both programs is designed to make obtaining services simpler and more efficient.
Two town halls offering explanations of Obama’s Affordable Care Act and question and answer sessions involving the audience will also take place at the Fitzgerald automotive center – from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, and from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, March 19.
A third forum to discuss Obamacare will be hosted by Liss from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, at DeCarlos Banquet Hall, 6015 10 Mile Road, at Mound.
