The “Recall Rick” campaign aimed at Gov. Snyder is gearing up in Macomb County.
The statewide recall group, Michigan Citizens United, is forming a Macomb County chapter and they will hold their first meeting Tuesday night in Mount Clemens.
The forum, which is open to the public, will entail discussion about the recall, as well as efforts to recruit volunteers who will circulate petitions.
The group cites several reasons why they believe Snyder should be removed from office:
* The emergency manager bill, signed into law by Snyder, gives the governor the power to appoint an emergency manager to take over a town or school district facing financial failure.
* A pending $1.8 billion tax break for the business community, combined with increased taxes on retirees and the working class.
* Cutting the K-12 education fund by reducing districts’ per-pupil funding. And cutting funding for cities and townships, which could impact police and fire protection.
In a statement, the group said: “While Gov. Snyder talks about shared sacrifice, it appears the sacrifice is shared by the lower 98 percent of incomes, while the upper 2 percent and corporations reap the new benefits.”
The meeting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Engine House Bar and Grill, 309 Cass Avenue, west of Gratiot, at the railroad tracks.
