If Mitt Romney is still in the running for president when the Republican campaign caravan comes to Michigan in February, the former Massachusetts governor has a must-visit stop to make.
A new pub called The Mitt is about to open in downtown Mount Clemens. That’s Mitt with two Ts, just like the candidate.
And the photo opps are obvious. Two big signs out front display the name and Michigan’s distinctive mitten shape.
Inside, the establishment features a large mural of the Mackinac Bridge on a wall, and the menu will also honor all things Michigan.
When The Mitt opens in January, owner Kenny Leonard will be serving authentic square pizza, just like the pies that were invented in Michigan in the 1940s, and comfort food with an ethnic origin, including pierogi, stuffed cabbage, Upper Peninsula pasties, and other dishes that come from German, Polish and Greek influences.
I would suggest Romney might want to make his reservations right now, for a time just prior to the Feb. 28 Michigan primary. Maybe it will bring him some good luck and he won’t have to cancel on The Mitt.
