The NRA and the die-hard gun rights crowd have found a new hero
in, of all places, the “liberal, urban wasteland” of Detroit.
Detroit Police Chief James Craig is the cover boy on the
new issue of America’s 1st Freedom magazine because of his outspoken
support for citizens using and carrying pistols to deter crime. The headline on
the mag says: “A show of courage in Detroit.”
“I’m pro-safety. I’m pro-life. I’m pro-law-abiding
citizens staying alive, having the ability to protect themselves in a dangerous
situation,” Craig reportedly said at a Monday press conference when asked about
the published story.
America’s 1st Freedom cited statistics that
show the Detroit Police Department is undermanned and often unable to respond
to 911 calls in a timely fashion. It also details that eight home invasions
thwarted by armed Detroiters in the past three months.
“Police officers cannot and will not be at every corner,
in front of every house, every business in the city,” the chief said. “That’s
just not realistic.”
Oh, man, how those words must warm the hearts of every
NRA member everywhere.
