Herman Cain’s campaign is out with a new “Women for Cain” website described as “an online national fellowship of women dedicated to helping elect Herman Cain as the next president of the United States.”
As reported by CBS News, the site is topped by a banner ad showing a diverse group of four smiling women giving a thumbs up sign. But the image does not depict actual Cain supporters. An Internet search shows that it is a “stock” photo that can be purchased for marketing and advertising purposes. Among the keywords for the photo listed on the Shutterstock website are “cheerfulness,” “fun,” “teenager,” “trust,” “victory” and “winner.”
Wow, the air is thick with irony.
The site describes Cain, who has been accused of a 13-year extramarital affair as well as multiple instances of sexual harassment, as “a strong advocate for women throughout his lifetime,” according to CBS.
Cain’s wife, Gloria, with whom he has still not talked about the alleged affair, is listed as national chairperson of Women for Cain. The site calls her “the very special woman who Mr. Cain devoted his life to many years ago.”
The site, which notes that Herman and Gloria Cain have been married for 43 years, encourages women to send in videos and written testimonials of their positive impressions of the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO. The site includes no photos of the elusive Gloria Cain or a personal appeal from her directly.
There are more than 30 written testimonials up on the site, including one from Mitzie Adams, who writes in part, “I worry that if the media succeeds in their ‘assassination by innuendo’ it could be the end of our Republic.”
