The members of the Macomb County Board of Commissioners
have joined with countless other Michigan politicians in saluting Congressman
John Dingall for becoming the longest serving member of Congress.
Yes, that’s a
typo. But it’s not my typo.
The proclamation unanimously passed by the board this
morning mentions Dingell eight times – and all eight times it misspells
the legendary lawmaker’s name. So, the praise for his 55 years in office and
the important legislation he helped pass through the decades goes to someone
named John Dingall.
I’m told that the botched attempt at praising the congressman
was simply a clerical error that was not fixed. But 13 commissioners adopted
the eight-paragraph written proclamation and none of them noticed the glaring
misspelling.
Of all the accolades Dingell received last week upon his
milestone achievement, I don’t think the Macomb County tribute will be framed and hung on a wall. It may end up in the circular file.
