CNN’s Anderson Cooper may routinely drift off into fluff
or murder mysteries these days, but he deserves kudos for the start of his “360”
broadcast tonight when he told viewers that the initial focus on the Navy Yard
shootings would be on the victims, not the perpetrator.

What followed was a series of short bios of the 12 who
were killed, in some cases enhanced by video interviews with family members.

It’s interesting to note that, in the aftermath of the
Boston Marathon bombings, numerous news organizations avoided the names and
photos of the two brothers who were responsible for the carnage. Just a few
months later, those standards seem to have disappeared.

You should be able to watch the opening segment of Cooper’s
show shortly on video here.
