Julie Calley has decided to run for a state House seat
based in Ionia County and she will occasionally be hitting the campaign trail
with some “eye candy” at her side – her husband, Lt. Gov. Brian Calley.

When asked by the MIRS news service what role her high-profile
hubby will play in her campaign, Julie Calley offered this playful response: “babysitter,
supportive spouse, and
occasional eye candy at district events.”

The Second Lady of Michigan is seeking the seat that
Brian Calley held prior to becoming Rick Snyder’s running mate in 2010 and winning
election as lieutenant governor. Julie Calley has already snagged the
whole-hearted endorsement of the term-limited incumbent, Mike Callton, in the
87th House District, which also encompasses Barry County.

The obvious frontrunner for the seat, Julie Calley currently
serves in several Ionia County positions as a member of the Board of
Commissioners, Community Mental Health Board, Community Corrections Board, the
Tax Allocation Board and Board of Public Works. According to MIRS, she also
serves as chair of the Michigan Community Service Commission
(MCSC).

As for the state’s second in command, he described his
role in the upcoming campaign this way: “She was basically my campaign manager
for my House race so she knows
how to do it better than I. Think of me as her supportive spouse.”

And maybe “eye candy” will be added to his official
resume if, as expected, he makes a run for governor in 2018.
