State Rep. Rudy Hobbs, a Southfield Democrat,
received a big boost this morning from former governor Jennifer Granholm in his
bid to win the heavily Democratic U.S. House seat being vacated by Congressman
Gary Peters.
In an email this morning to friends and longtime
supporters, Granholm gave a glowing endorsement to Hobbs, who served on her
gubernatorial staff.
“Rudy is exactly the right person to represent this
diverse district. Nowhere will you find a candidate with the breadth of
experience, passion, dedication and deep roots that Rudy has,” Granholm wrote.
“He will be a regional leader, tackling tough issues and
working to end the gridlock paralyzing our nation’s capital.”
Hobbs is a former teacher, school board member and
staffer for Congressman Sandy Levin. He declared his candidacy early in the 14th
District, which stretches from the Detroit River west and north through a swath
of Detroit and several Oakland County suburbs.
Peters, of course, is giving up his House seat to make a 2014 run for U.S. Senate.
Here is Granholm’s entire message:
I am writing today to urge you to support my good friend,
Rudy Hobbs. Rudy is running for Congress in Michigan’s 14th District, a seat
currently held by Rep. Gary Peters who is running for U.S. Senate.

Growing up on the east side of Detroit, Rudy has spent his entire career
serving the communities he loves.

As a first grade teacher in Detroit Public Schools and a Southfield School
Board member, he worked to prepare our youngest minds for success.

Serving as district director for Sandy Levin’s Michigan office, he personally
helped constituents across the district get the support they needed and
deserved from our federal government.

While I was governor, Rudy advised on and helped move forward critical policy
initiatives we were fighting for, like:

Expanding access to higher education for all Michigan
students through The Cherry Commission;

Bringing world-class research and jobs to Michigan with
the University Research Corridor;

Promoting a strong economy and healthy environment with
The Great Lakes Commission.

And as Democratic Floor Leader in the Michigan House,
Rudy fought for legislation to help working families across our state.

Rudy is exactly the right person to represent this diverse district. Nowhere
will you find a candidate with the breadth of experience, passion, dedication
and deep roots that Rudy has.

He will be a regional leader, tackling tough issues and working to end the
gridlock paralyzing our nation’s capital.

He will bring critical resources and jobs back as we continue to rebuild
Michigan’s economy.

Rudy has proven himself to be a fighter for women across Michigan, showing time
and again his dedication to end pay discrimination, protect a woman’s right to
choose and ensuring access to critical health care services.

Rudy
will be a voice for all of us in Washington and a candidate you can count on.

Your donation, no matter the size, will make a real difference for Rudy.

Michigan needs Rudy representing the 14th District in Washington.

Please
join me and make a contribution to his campaign.

I can’t thank you enough for your continued support through the years and your
willingness to support Rudy in his campaign for Congress.

Sincerely,

Jennifer M. Granholm
Former governor of Michigan
