The state GOP’s new party chairman, Bobby Schostak, sure stepped in it when asked about the tentative field of Republican candidates seeking to challenge Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow in 2012.
In an interview, Schostak said that he believes a Republican standardbearer will emerge who is “head and shoulders” above the field that is mentioned so far.
That creates one big problem: with a single phrase, Schostak dissed some of the top Republicans in the state – former secretary of state Terri Lynn Land, former congressman Pete Hoekstra, and former party chairman Saul Anuzis.
“Basically, what he is saying is he doesn’t like us, which is a pretty rude thing for the state party chairman to say,” Land responded when told by The Detroit News of Schostak’s assessment.
I would suggest the reaction in private by Land, Hoekstra and Anuzis was quite a bit stronger than calling it a “rude thing.”
