Ratherthan using the milestone of his upcoming 50th birthday for a fancy campaign
fundraiser, County Executive Mark Hackel is using the occasion to raise money
Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Metropolitan Detroit, where he serves on the board of directors.
Among
those promoting this $20-per-person event and saluting Hackel for holding it is
county Commissioner Fred Miller. The Mount Clemens Democrat is supposedly
Hackel’s arch enemy but in his weekly newsletter to constituents, Miller wrote:

it’s no secret that he and I haven’t always seen eye to eye but I’m pleased to
be able to give credit where credit is due and honestly say that this endeavor
has made me proud of my County Exec. It just goes to show that by
focusing on substantive issues and ways to help people it’s easy to find common
ground.”

Wow,
if Miller and Hackel can smoke the peace
pipe, maybe there’s hope for Macomb’s new charter/executive style of government
after all.
