Republican activist Dennis Lennox suggests that former
secretary of state Terri Lynn Land’s run for Senate could be even more brief
than her abbreviated campaign for governor in 2010 — if Congressman Dave Camp
jumps into the race.

In his column for our sister paper, the Mount Pleasant
Morning Sun, Lennox wrote that Camp, the Midland Republican who chairs the
House Ways and Means Committee, could send ripples throughout Michigan politics
if he decides to pursue the seat being vacated by Sen. Carl Levin.

Here’s a portion of his piece:
“This is a big blow to presumptive Democratic nominee
Gary Peters, the Oakland County congressman, who, without an aggressive
Republican challenger, has been allowed to define the early narrative of next

“Republican National Committee member
Terri Lynn Land, twice elected statewide as secretary of state, will face
increasing pressure from GOP grandees to give way for Camp, despite
having done well in a head-to-head poll against Peters. She can ignore this until early fall, when she’ll need to post big
fundraising numbers.
“Camp could make a decision as early as Sept. 20, when a Who’s Who of the party
gathers for the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference.”
