The Republican Party has announced a campaign rally featuring one of President Trump’s most-trusted advisers, Kellyanne Conway, and the top contenders on the GOP ticket in Michigan on Thursday in Macomb County.

Conway will be the keynote speaker at the event, which will also include remarks by Senate candidate John James, gubernatorial hopeful Bill Schuette, Republican nominee for attorney general Tom Leonard, and the GOP’s choice for secretary of state, Mary Treder Lang.

The rally will be held at 7 p.m. at the Villa Penna banquet hall in Sterling Heights, 43985 Hayes Rd., south of M-59. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

The gathering is billed as a get-out-the-vote effort with the election just days away. In an interview earlier this week Trump called James, who he has endorsed, “a star” and said he wanted to come to Michigan to campaign for the candidate.

But the president’s schedule now indicates that he will be making campaign stops in eight states before the Tuesday vote, but none in Michigan.

Meanwhile, all four top GOP candidates are looking to close the gaps they face with their Democratic competitors.

In the latest statewide poll, conducted for The Detroit News, James trails Democratic incumbent Sen. Debbie Stabenow, 53-36 percent; Schuette, the state attorney general, is behind Democrat Gretechen Whitmer, 50-38 percent; Leonard, speaker of the state House, faces a 45-34 percent gap in his race against Democratic nominee Dana Nessel; and Lang faces a 45-34 percent margin of difference with Democrat Jocelyn Benson.

Those planning to attend the rally must RSVP online here.
