Seth Rogen, the comic actor known for his roles in films
such as “Knocked Up” and “Pineapple Express,” was not amused when he went to
Capitol Hill to testify about Alzheimer’s disease research and only two of the
18 members of the Senate subcommittee holding the hearing stuck around to hear
what he had to say.
Afterward he tweeted this message to his 1.8 million
followers on Twitter: “All those empty seats are senators
who are not prioritizing Alzheimer’s. Unless more noise is made, it won’t
change.
The 31-year-old actor co-founded with
his wife a charity group, Hilarity for Charity, after his mother-in-law was
afflicted by Alzheimer’s at age 55.
News accounts indicate that Rogen
was humorous, eloquent and touching in his opening statement and when answering
questions. However, the questions were minimal because the only senators who
participated in the hearing were Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) and Sen. Jerry
Moran (R-Kansas).
Apparently, one subcommittee member, Sen. Mark Kirk
(R-Illinois), asked Rogen before the session began if he would pose for a
picture with him. Rogen complied and then Kirk left.
“Not sure why only two senators were at the hearing.
Very symbolic of how the Government views Alzheimer’s,” Rogen tweeted.
