Columnist Dennis Lennox writes this week that the scofflaw Nevada rancher, later exposed as a virulent
racist — Cliven Bundy – presents another lesson not learned by Republican Party
leaders.
In the age of social media
and the 24/7 news cycle, GOP conservatives quickly rallied to Bundy’s side on the issue
of federal cow-grazing fees, Lennox wrote in our sister paper, The (Mount
Pleasant) Morning Sun. But these supporters knew nearly nothing about this old
cowboy, and they quickly fled his side when Bundy revealed himself as the type
of bigot who wonders aloud if “the Negro” would be better off picking cotton as
a slave than living in poverty.

I would suggest this lesson should have been learned when Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty fame was exposed as a phony and a racist. Lennox points to the Michigan GOP’s kid-gloves treatment of Dave Agema’s gay bashing.
The message is the same, again and again.
Here’s a taste of Lennox’s
column:

“The left’s favorite and
arguably most successful strategy is to portray
those on the right as angry old white men who are against everyone
who isn’t old, white and contemptuous of modern realities.
“It
also doesn’t help when conservatives make unforced errors.

Bundy,
as with Dave Agema, Michigan’s disgraced member of the Republican
National Committee, have every right in America to be a bigot.
However, neither has a right of influence over either the conservative
movement or the GOP.

“This
is becoming an issue closer to home as Democrats are beginning to use
Agema against presumptive Republican senatorial nominee Terri Lynn Land,
who sat for nearly two years alongside Agema on the RNC.”

Since it is permissible to bash someone for being white then Agema has a right to bash someone for being gay. I thought thre was a thing called free speech. But he not bashing. He is correct in that quote. The incidence of pedophilia is higher among homosexuals. Also an abnormally higher percentage of sexually motivated serial murderers are gay or transgender. Even if this is not the case, there is no justification to force anyone to accept homosexual behavior. It might come as news but it is not sanctioned by either the Christian or Islamic faith. Nor is there any justification to force anyone to be silent about the secular disadvantages of gay marriage. Marriage has been encouraged since ancient times because of procreation and the social cohesion that results from healthy families. Homosexual marriage is by definition not pro-creative and it is not a healthy environment for a child. He not only has a right to be a bigot, but he deserves to be listened to more than you because he has a valid argument. You are calling for his proscription for no other reason than the popularity of current societal taboos. That makes you a bigger bigot. And like you or anyone else he has the right to political expression which means influencing the GOP or conservative movement. Otherwise you don’t have that right either.
