Despite the lack of excitement or energy in this year’s primary election campaigns, Macomb County Clerk Carmella Sabaugh predicts a typical turnout of 18-22 percent in Macomb.

Chief Elections Clerk Roger Cardamone agrees that turnout will be fairly typical.
“Although there are no contested primaries at the top of the ticket, there are very important tax issues on the ballot, which will keep turnout in the average range,” Sabaugh said.
In contrast, Bill Barnwell, a county commissioner candidate in Warren, where very little of interest is on the ballot, said he saw a different picture when traveling to various polling places. The indication Barnwell got was that we will have a “depressingly light turnout.”
