Trott, a lawyer from Birmingham, is the
Republican establishment’s candidate in the 11th Congressional
District, which covers western Wayne County and a portion of Oakland County.

But Trott is known as one of the
state’s leading profiteers in the foreclosure crisis of 2008-10. His law firm,

Bentivolio, in contrast, is the tea
party favorite, the former reindeer rancher and Santa Claus impersonator who’s not
afraid to cozy up to a few conspiracy theories.

Wow. Featuring the story and a photo of Hollis, who I
believe has since passed away, indicates Bentivolio supporters are going for the jugular. Of course, it remains to be seen how much
concern the upper-income, west-side suburbanites have for an elderly black woman
from Detroit who was evicted. I don’t know that the 11th District
voters would rank that near the top of their priorities list.

Meanwhile, I’m still waiting for the national media to latch
onto this race and bill it as: Santa Claus vs. The Grinch.

Actually Chad, the new 11th District is far MORE of Oakland County (Troy, Clawson, Auburn Hills, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Farmington, Novi and the part of Northville City that's in Oakland County) than Wayne County (just Livonia, Plymouth, Canton and the rest of Northville).
The way it was redrawn in 2011 would have required former Rep. Thaddeus McCotter to "introduce" himself to communities he'd never represented in his career. Had he run against Rep. Gary Peters, Peters would have had a better claim to being the "incumbent" than McCotter (as more residents came from the old 9th than the old 11th).
Of course none of that happened. My point is that the new 11th wasn't drawn to benefit McCOTTER — who'd already alienated the MIGOP establishment with his sad Presidential run and other eccentricities — but another Republican power broker waiting in the wings: David Trott.
The Oakland County sections of the new District are ideal for Trott; and if you recall he seriously considered running against Bentivolio as a write-in in 2012, before deciding against it. A smart choice, as losing to Bentivolio then (no matter the underlying reason) would have damaged his "brand" going into 2014.
