With Ben Carson’s faltering presidential campaign in limbo, his Michigan campaign chairman has announced that he’s switching sides and backing Marco Rubio.
According to MLive, state Sen. Mike Shirkey issued a statement explaining his move, concluding that Donald Trump is not a true conservative and the Ted Cruz campaign operation has rubbed people the wrong way in Michigan.
As for Rubio, the Clarklake Republican said this:

Shirkey
“His story is compelling. His ability to communicate is outstanding. His principles very closely align with mine. And his ability to connect and inspire, once the field clears, will hopefully bring some much needed healing to our party and to our country,”
As Rubio tries to emerge as the consensus candidate to take on frontrunner Trump, Carson characteristically has acted in an odd fashion in recent days.
The prominent neurosurgeon decided to bypass Thursday’s debate in his hometown of Detroit. He has said he sees no path to the GOP nomination for his candidacy. But he has kept his future up in the air while saying that he will deliver a speech today.
Shirkey had been named Carson’s Michigan campaign chairman just four months ago.
