On the first anniversary of President Trump’s election victory, Steve Bannon, former chief political strategist for the president, will speak at a Republican Party dinner in Macomb County.

Bannon will be the featured guest at a Macomb County Republican Party “Unity Dinner” in Warren on Nov. 8, an event that shapes up as a celebration of Trump’s 2016 win in Michigan and Macomb.

Some political pundits have pinpointed Trump’s success in Macomb as the most significant single factor nationwide in his election victory, as it allowed him to carry Michigan by a razor-thin margin.

With Bannon running the campaign, Trump gained nearly 40,000 votes in the county compared to the 2012 election when President Obama outpaced Republican Mitt Romney in Macomb.

Trump campaigned in the county three times, two times in the final week leading up to the election, including a big rally at Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights the Sunday before the vote.

“I am so happy that Steve Bannon who served as the CEO of the Trump campaign and the Chief Strategist in the White House would join us to celebrate the first anniversary of President Trump’s incredible victory,” said Macomb GOP Chair Cathy Kirk.

“And it is fitting that Mr. Bannon would come here, to Macomb County, to mark this occasion since our community
provided nearly five times the margin President Trump needed to win Michigan for a Republican Presidential candidate for the first time in 28 years.”

A controversial figure in some circles, Bannon resigned from the White House in August and returned to his previous post as executive editor at Breitbart, an ultraconservative news site. Since then, he has essentially declared war on the Republican “elites” in Washington.

As Trump’s campaign manager and chief strategist, Bannon was credited with pushing the billionaire businessman toward an “America First,” nationalist campaign strategy with an emphasis on trade, immigration and cultural issues.

The Nov. 8 Macomb GOP dinner will take place from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Andiamo Celebrity Showroom in Warren, located on 14 Mile Road just west of Van Dyke. Tickets for the fundraising event start at $70 and can be purchased online at MacombGOP.org.
