A 1-hour speech by the supremely confident Warren Mayor Jim Fouts is certain to contain a few nuggets fueled by eccentricity or ego.
And Wednesday’s State of the City Address did not disappoint.
The first words out of the mayor’s mouth were dripping with sarcasm. He complained that, not only did Gov. Rick Snyder not attend the mayor’s speech, he scheduled an event – the eagerly awaited town hall meeting in Detroit — that siphoned away the media coverage of Fouts’ moment in the spotlight.
“First, I want to thank Gov. Snyder,” Fouts said with a deadpan expression. “There would be more microphones here but the governor had another event. So, I want to thank him for that.”
