Chad Selweski, author of the politicscentral.org website and the “Politically Speaking” blog, received an award last week from the Michigan Press Association (MPA) for a story he wrote in 2017 about drug-using workers who can’t hold a job.

The story was written for Bridge Magazine, an online publication that managed a “three-peat,” winning the MPA award for best non-daily news publication in the state for the third consecutive year.

Bridge, a publication of the nonprofit Center for Michigan, earned 30 MPA awards in categories ranging from investigative reporting to columns to general news stories.

Selweski’s story received an honorable mention in the Business News category. The judges said: “An engaging look at an increasing workplace problem, especially as more states are legalizing either recreational or medicinal marijuana. This article captures the frustrations of employees and employers alike. Well done.”
Selweski won an award for the same story in April from the Detroit chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
