Congressional candidate Doug Slocum of Macomb County boasted in a Facebook post that he had attended a pro-President Trump gathering along with members of the far-right political group known as The Proud Boys.
Slocum, the former commander of the Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Harrison Township, wrote on Facebook about his attendance at the local “Trump Unity” event on Dec. 20: “Had a wonderful evening fundraising for the Trump Unity Bridge with Rob Cortis, The Proud Boys, Brian Pannebecker, Auto Workers for Trump, Casey Armitage, Adam Armitage, Marty Prehn, Bob Little, Don Brown, Lisa Damon and other great Trump Republican friends.”
The Proud Boys are a high-profile neo-fascist group that glorifies violence against left-wingers and has some ties to white nationalist groups. They have been associated with racism, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism and misogyny. The group, known for its hazing rituals, only allows men as members.
Slocum, a retired Air Force Brigadier General, is running in the territory where GOP Rep. Paul Mitchell is vacating his seat, in the same district that was represented by Candice Miller for 14 years. The 10th Congressional District extends from northern Macomb County to the tip of the Thumb Area.
Among the others mentioned in Slocum’s online message are two controversial characters from the Macomb GOP.
Pennebecker is an anti-union activist who has repeatedly referred to Democrats as communists and has advocated carrying guns in churches to protect against Muslims who want to massacre “infidels.”
Prehn (pictured above, right, with Slocum) has been a provocative figure for many years in Macomb County, dubiously portraying himself as an expert on elder abuse, a criminal investigator and a champion for families facing Probate Court fights over guardianship.
Thanks for the info.
uh Proud Boys aren’t a hate group, this political Hit Piece is so obvious that it hurts.
the only “Hateful” opinion that they hold is that the position of a House Wife (if taken) should be venerated.
I don’t see how a group that formed in response to politicized violence to keep the peace at Political events (much like the OathKeepers). They are a group of people that meet up, drink and find fellowship with one another and stand up to violence at political events.
they don’t show up to events led or organized by others on the other side of the isle, they don’t start fights and only fight in self defense. and how is saying they will defend themselves from people who willingly assault others for “wrong Think” considered “Glorifying Violence” in any stretch?
its shameful that the truth has been out there for a while and yet journalists like you will still slander them with the lies and propaganda that they have ANY association with white nationalist groups (despite MANY MANY of their members being Black and Hispanic) nor are they a “Fascist” group, they have no views that are shared with National Syndicalists, Fascists or Nazis.
correction:
I don’t see how a group that formed in response to politicized violence to keep the peace at Political events (much like the OathKeepers) is considered a hate group. They are a group of people that meet up, drink and find fellowship with one another and stand up to violence at political events. yet you source multiple articles filled with misinformation and wildly discredited claims.
maybe you shouldn’t be posting sources written by defenders of terrorists (as categorized by the FBI) and Anti Semites
thepostmillennial(dot)com/antifa-activist-charges-hate-crime/
Every article linking Proud Boys to “White Nationalists” or any bit of hate were written by people who don’t like it when a group is formed to defend right wingers from groups like antifa attempting to “Curb stomp” students at free speech events in Berkley CA or Right Wing events in general. These journalists DEFEND terrorists who assault students with bike locks (an event that basically CAUSED groups like the proud boys to form), with these yellow journalist pieces backhandedly explaining that an “anti-Fascist” group only assaults “fascists” despite 90% of people attacked and assaulted by antifa have been Students, Journalists and non violent political rally attendee’s
Im honestly thinking this isnt a centrist news outlet, after years of reading from this site, you have a pretty hard left wing bias and this article finally sets that in stone.
I figured this was an outlet that was above political hit pieces and sharing fake news. but it seems to not
